Happy Aquarium goes to the World Cup with tank backgrounds
It looks like Crowdstar is fully on board the FIFA World Cup train this year, as they first released soccer items in Zoo Paradise and now have released them in Happy Aquarium as well. Happy Aquarium now has 18 new tank backgrounds for your aquarium that you proudly display which country you are rooting for in the World Cup. Each of these backgrounds cost 36 Pearls or 30 Facebook Credits.
The World Cup is going to be running from June 11 through July 11th, so these limited time backgrounds will probably be gone shortly thereafter. We're sure there are more backgrounds to come, as there are 32 countries participating in the World Cup and only 18 are represented so far. It's also possible that the smaller countries will not be represented in Happy Aquarium.

Treetopia reveals secrets with new epic story quest
Treetopia is a unique Facebook game, in that it attempts to provide more story than most other casual games we cover here on Games.com - The Blog. In the weeks since it has been released, Playdom have been teasing us by saying that we'll soon be able to find out more about the tree that is the main focal point of our village. Now, there is a whole epic story quest line that gives players a better indication of why they're there on Treetopia, and where they're going.
There are four stages of the new epic quest, including learning of the tree, traveling to Panther Island, clearing out plants, and finally, saving the Great Tree. You can find the beginning quest on the right side of your quest map. Participating in this quests does require resources just like regular Treetopia quests. We won't spoil the story here, because you should definitely log in to Treetopia and complete these quests to really immerse yourself in the world of Treetopia and learn the secrets of the Great Tree.

Pet Society: Hideeni celebrates World Cup
Hideeni's got a sporty new look in honor of the World Cup. He looks so cute, but I just want to kick him!
He's giving out 15 flags from around the globe. What's really interesting is that Playfish is going to be watching the World Cup matches closely and offering the flags as long as the teams remain in the competition. (I'm a bit mystified why all 32 nations in the World Cup weren't included in this group of flags-South Korea, for example isn't represented. I guess Playfish doesn't have much confidence in the Red Devils.)
Which nation will be the last one standing? We'll find out in about a month. The World Cup goes from June 11-July 11.
Check out the rest of this post to see all the flags that Hideeni is giving away! Pet Society Hideeni's World Cup Flags

FrontierVille Goal Guide: A list of every darn-tootin' goal in the game
In any normal circumstance, being told what to do doesn't isn't that much fun. In FrontierVille, the opposite's the case. This pioneering game does what other Facebook games don't -- directs your experience, which gives the game structure and ultimately holds your interest more than roaming around your neighbors' properties randomly chopping trees and harvesting barnyard animals.
So far, FrontierVille has 95 goals in all and continue to add them as the weeks pass. For those of you who want to see what lies ahead for your hard-working pioneer family, Games.com - The Blog! has posted this guide which lists every last goal in the game. (NOTE: I recommend unchecking the box for "Make Ask my browser default search provider" because if you're after the shark, you really don't need it.)
Judging by the file name, you should be able to tell that this Gamebar is a newer edition than the one released in April, so maybe you'd want to keep it around to test it out.
After you've downloaded the Gamebar, double-click on it to run installation, then restart your browser. When you log back in, you should see the image below. Click on "Get My Shark!" and you'll get a baby Rare Rainbow Shark in your tank.
Happy Aquarium: Get My Shark!
And just like the first time around, the game should reward you with an additional 20 Coins for your trouble. Now, if you want to uninstall it, here's what you do:
If you're using Firefox, simply go to the top of your window for the "Tools" menu, scroll down to "Add-ons", look for the "Crowdstar Gamebar", then click "Uninstall". Firefox will restart itself, the Gamebar will be gone, and you'll get to keep the shark!
For Internet Explorer users, go to "Tools", scroll down to "Manage Add-ons", look for the "Crowdstar Gamebar" listed under "Ask.com", double-click on the name "Crowdstar Gamebar", then click on "Remove".
Back in April, Crowdstar promoted its Gamebar through Happy Aquarium, offering 10 free Pearls to those willing to install it. This time around, random players who start their game are getting a pop-up window advertising the Gamebar with the Rare Rainbow Shark.

FishVille releases two limited time Grouper fish
Fish fans rejoice - there is new limited time fish available in the FishVille market! The Sawtail Grouper costs 12 Sand Dollars, takes 3 days to grow to maturity, gives 1,200 XP and sells for 4,800 coins. The Goldbar Grouper takes a bit longer to grow, 4 days, and sells for 6,400 coins and gives 1,930 XP. However, it costs 16 Sand Dollars, which isn't cheap.
You'll have to act quick if you want these fish though, as the Sawtail Grouper is only available for 5.1 days, and the Goldbar is only available for 2.1 days. FishVille pretty much always has a fish or two available for a limited time, and these two are rather pretty. The Sawtail is a nice blue color with a bit of shimmer and the Goldbar fish is orange with white stripes.

PetVille game cards now in a store near you
Zynga have now released brand new game cards at Gamestop and 7/11. Previously, only FarmVille, Mafia Wars, and Cafe World game cards were available, but now PetVille and Treasure Isle cards are available as well. These cards come in $10.00 and $25.00 denominations and are redeemed online. PetVille fans, you'll be happy to know that there is an exclusive in-game mascot reward for redeeming your game cards in PetVille. So far, no such deal has been announced in Treasure Isle, but that doesn't mean that one isn't coming soon.
Game cards provide an easy alternative for getting Pet Cash, especially for those people who don't have access to credit cards. Instead of partaking in offers that may or may not successfully pay off, game cards guarantee that you'll be able to redeem them for in-game cash. They also make perfect gifts for the Zynga game fan in your life. These cards can be redeemed in any Zynga game (not just PetVille and Treasure Isle) but you will only get the bonus mascot pet if you redeem yours in PetVille.
Have you redeemed a game card? What does the PetVille Mascot look like in your pet's home?

FarmVille: Give neighbors the gift that keeps on giving -- pig slop
FarmVille is encouraging more farmers to be good neighbors lately. First, the game launched the Daily Good Deeds list, and earlier this week, the ability to send Special Deliveries to neighbors from their farms. Now, you can keep the do-gooder thing going by sending friends free pig slop while visiting their farms.
To give away free slop, click the pig icon on the left hand of the screen. You will then be able to post a message to your neighbor's wall that says "YOURNAME visited your farm and is sharing a little extra pig slop with you!"

Pet Society gets downright fierce with new Fighter Arcade Game
Pet Society creator Playfish has just released a brand new toy for your pets that we're sure many of you coin-op junkies would appreciate. The new Fighter Arcade Game toy is available in the Pet Society store or by just clicking the ad below the game screen. Here's the clincher: it's only 900 coins and costs zero Playfish Cash!
The Fighter Arcade Game is part of a much larger event, "Matsuri Week," whose exclusive Japanese item collection is slowly trickling into the game until September 20. We know, that's obviously longer than a week, but don't question a good thing.
Clearly inspired by the Japanese fighting game that brought the genre into the main stream, Street Fighter, the game plays itself when clicked. Look closely and you'll see one of the furry combatants let loose a tiny, blue fireball just like Ryu!

When does FarmVille finally get in the way?
FarmVille Logo
Is it when your grades start slipping? That's exactly what Harrisburg University of Science and Technology wants to find out this Monday when it will block its college network from all social networks this Monday. Part of an involuntary social experiment, the college-wide shut down of social media access will include Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and AOL Instant Messenger, according to Inside Higher Ed.
While Harrisburg University's issue with Facebook isn't solely due to FarmVille, surely some of that traffic was headed Zynga's way. When does FarmVille become such a prominent aspect of your life that it blocks their path to success? Have you ever had to cut yourself off from social games because you were afraid they were getting in the way? How would you feel if your school or workplace cut off your access to social games without your consent?

Cafe World Grand Master Chef: Build this to master recipes faster
After an early warning last week, the Grand Master Chef has arrived in Cafe World. Once complete, this new buildable item will help you master dishes three times (3x) faster for one week. That means the cooking time for the dishes will be the same, but once they're done, you will be rewarded with additional mastery points.
There's a catch though, after the week is up, you will have to pay 8 Cafe Cash to recharge the Grand Master Chef and keep these mastery bonuses coming. Ouch.
If you decide to take the plunge anyway -- here's what you need to do. By now, you're probably very familiar with buildable items in Cafe World. The first step? Collecting materials to complete your statue and get the faster mastery bonus.
cafe world grand master chef materials
Here are the items (and how many of each) you'll need to collect to complete the item:
Magic Herbs - 8
Secret Spices - 8
Ancient Recipes - 8
Secret Scrolls - 8
There are two ways to get all of the materials you need to complete the Grand Master Chef.
1. Ask fellow players to send them to you
2. Buy them for Cafe Cash, each item costs 1CC -- so if you want to buy everything at once, you'll need to spend 32 Cafe Cash (roughly $7).
Right now, these items are now available in the Free Gifts section of the game, so the only way to give friends these items is to sent them via a Wall Post.
grand master chef
Unlike the No Clean Fairy, you actually need to place the base of the Grand Master Chef in your cafe. You can click on the base to check your progress and ask friends to send you more items.
Once the Grand Master Chef is complete -- you will be able to master recipes 3x faster for one week, once that week is up, you'll have to decide if its worth the Cafe Cash to keep the faster mastery mojo going.
What do you think of the Grand Master Chef? Is it worth building?

Vampire Wars' Fae Wings introduce the world's first undead fairies
If you're still collecting the Feather Wings in Vampire Wars, stop right there. Zynga added Fae Wings to your favorite fanged fantasy. Undead bird people are cool and all, but undead fairies are definitely a first. And... that's every fantasy trope in existence accounted for. This time around, the wings only take 50 Fae Fragments and come in the standard three varieties:
Blue Fae Wings: +10 Rage, +20 Energy
Purple Fae Wings: +20 Attack, +20 Energy
Red Fae Wings: +20 Defense, +20 Energy
The only way to find the Fae Fragments is through asking your friends for them through gifts or returning the favor. Collecting all three sets of wings will reward you with +10 Attack and Defense and +20 Energy. These provide essentially the same bonuses as the Feather Wings, but considering they cost much less to make we recommend going for these if you haven't started on a set yet. Not to mention they look pretty damned awesome. Again, the Artisans are going to take a week to craft these once you turn in the fragments, which you can speed along by bribing them for Favor Points, but why rush it?

Mafia Wars Zynga Request Page finally live, other games wait patiently
Thanks to the Zynga Request Page finally appearing in Mafia Wars, you can now send and receive gifts and Energy, respond to help requests and accept mafia invites in the game without leaving to another page. Just click on the envelope icon next the Help box in the upper right corner of the game screen to access all of your requests in the game.
Your requests are by default organized in one list, but you can view by category if you'd rather not get confused. Accepting gifts automatically places them in your inventory and allows you to send "Thank You" gifts right from the page. However, you're not given the option to choose the gift you send, which most likely means that you'll automatically send the same gift in return. A choice on what gift to send would have been much better, but this will have to do for now.
According to Mafia Wars Maniac, accepting gifts also has the chance of rewarding you with Loyalty Points. Pretty sweet deal for not doing much of anything. Unfortunately, we're experiencing a bug that only allows you to send a certain amount of "Thank You" gifts in return before the option fails to appear anymore. We hope this is fixed soon or our mafias are going to think we're all jerks who don't like gifting back.
Sadly, the full Zynga Request Page has yet to make it into some of Zynga's other games like Treasure Isle and FrontierVille, but hopefully it's only a matter of time before this feature is available in all of the studio's games. In the meantime, you'll have to suffer the new old-fashioned way.

Mafia Wars Slots Super Items added to Bonus Wheel, pay big to win big
The Lucky Stash Slot Machine in Mafia Wars was always an obligatory thing to do each day when you were given a free spin or something to pump extra Reward Points into when there was nothing else better to buy--which probably never happened. Finally, Zynga added some extra incentive to spinning that wheel more than once daily with Slots Super Items.
These items are only available by filling the Bonus Meter completely and spinning the Bonus Wheel for free. Before, the Bonus Wheel was only filled with various amounts of Reward Points and meager items with stats that weren't even impressive when the feature was first introduced in July 2010. But spinning now can win you some pretty impressive animals, weapons, armor and vehicles like the Rex Fang (73 Attack, 35 Defense).
The cheapo in me is still only going to use his free daily spin, but at least this is something better to look forward to than items like the Box Jellyfish (28 Attack, 56 Defense). Seriously, at least bring something to a fight that you could fashion into a shiv... like a swordfish.

Newsweek rates Facebook's 'most addictive games', the most fun epidemic in years
Newsweek recently took a look at the metrics they believe imply are Facebook's most addictive games including staples like Zyngas' FarmVille and Mafia Wars as well as gems like Bejeweled Blitz from Popcap and Mindjolt's Bouncing Balls. But are the numbers behind social games enough to say whether they're addictive? If the numbers indicate anything more than gamers simply enjoying games, then we might have an epidemic afflicting 160 million on our hands.
Well, if you're in Dr. Hilarie Cash's camp, who claims that social games are addictive by design, then this is most likely true. If Cash is right, then it's possible that we're all 'addicted' to Facebook games on varying levels solely by virtue of their design. But is it truly addiction that makes social games so popular or is it the basic reward structure in which social games operate? Maybe the gameplay structure of task and reward is inherently gripping.
While some cases of gaming addiction are pretty cut and dry, perhaps it's a personal realization of a negative impact. In a recent survey by Lightspeed Research, 19 percent of Facebook gamers admitted to being addicted. (And that doesn't account for how many who could be in denial.)

It's Turkey Time in Tiki Resort: New mystery prizes
Playdom's Tiki Resort is still bustling with activity from all their Halloween surprises, but now it's time to pull out the Thanksgiving goodies and celebrate a new holiday.
The most exciting celebration in this new theme is the Daily Turkey Bonus. Simply for logging into Tiki Resort and clicking on the large bouncing roasted turkey once per day, you'll be given an exclusive random Thankgiving-themed item. There are 7 total Thanksgiving items that can be won in this way, totally for free. You can also buy Thanksgiving Charms for 9 Facebook Credits each to give yourself more chances in the random giveaway.
Finally, there is one new item in the Shop available for Thanksgiving only. The Tiki Turkey Tent will cost you 29 Facebook Credits, and looks like two turkeys underneath a striped yellow tent. We're sure this isn't the last new item available for purchase. It does seem as if most of the Turkey day decorations will come from the mystery game. Which is fine with us, because it's free!

FarmVille Country Fair buildings and decorations now available
In addition to the new animal and tree available in the equally new Country Fair theme in FarmVille, tonight's game update also saw the release of two new buildings and four new decorations in the store.
The items here are the basics of what you'll need to put together your very own Country Fair or carnival on your farm. The two buildings are the Carnival Tent and the Ticket Booth. What goes on inside the Carnival Tent can be left to your imagination. Is it an animal show? A petting zoo? That's all up to you, but you can add one to your farm for 120,000 coins. Likewise, the Ticket Booth is also a coin-based item, costing just 40,000 coins.
As for the new decorations, you can now pick up the Pirate Boat Ride that we gave you a sneak peek of earlier this week, along with a Dunk Tank and Balloon Stand, both of which are available for coins. Surprisingly, the only two items available for Farm Cash are the Free Fall Ride, and the aforementioned Pirate Boat Ride, which cost 50 and 25 Farm Cash, respectively.
We'll be sure to let you know when and if this theme continues to grow in the future, so check back with us then!

FarmVille Thanksgiving is already on the way
farmville thanksgiving farmville thanksgiving
Although Halloween just ended, Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. FarmVille is already preparing awesome new stuff to celebrate the occasion. That's the best part about Facebook games during the holiday season, it's not-stop updates, items, and special promotions. Definitely better than the boring summer months.

I stumbled upon a few unreleased FarmVille Thanksgiving items today. In addition to a turkey costume and three turkey sweaters, FarmVille seems to be planning a Thanksgiving table feature. It looks as though people will have to gift you supplies to build up your Thanksgiving dinner. Just thinking about that feast is making me hungry already.
Check back in with the blog for more Thanksgiving stuff as we move closer to the holiday.

Restaurant City Wizard School items to conjure magical cafes Thursday
Though Halloween is officially over, that doesn't mean our games have to be any less magical. Playfish is set to introduce the new Wizard School set of items to Restaurant City this Thursday. This new theme is sure to transform your restaurant into an enchanted eatery in no time with outdoor and indoor decorations. Let the Magic Broom, which will replace your janitorial staff, do the cleaning for you. O Mirror of Gluttony, an item that will generate 1,500 coins every four hours for two and a half days before it breaks from reflecting so many overindulgent customers. (Is Playfish trying to say something here?)
Frankly, the Wizard School theme is clearly biting off inspired by the Harry Potter series. Especially considering this set of items comes just in time for the November release of the seventh film based on the infamous novels. You'll also find decorations like Harry Butter and Ham-oniony (who comes up with this stuff?) as well. But Playfish knows what you really want: the recipes. So, this week both Chocolate Toads (sound familiar?) and Butternut Squash will be added to the game. But this is just scratching the surface of what's to be introduced tomorrow, so take a look at the full list on the Restaurant City Blog and brush up on your spell book for when this new theme lands tomorrow.

CityVille leaves Zynga Lotto fans out in the suburbs
Zynga Lotto fans are feeling quite abandoned right now.
Nearly two months ago, Zynga used Zynga Lotto -- a free, virtual lottery system with exclusive freebies strictly for fans of Zynga's games -- to announce a new Facebook game for the fall. Players had to collect three keys by 'scratching off' tickets. After receiving the keys, they were awarded with the following message: "YOU WON! Exclusive access to Zynga's newest game! (Coming soon)." At which point, Zynga Lotto seemed more awesome than ever. But suddenly, a week after that, Zynga Lotto gets shut down without warning. And then, one week ago from today, Zynga lifts the curtain on their new game, which turns out to be CityVille.
Understandably, this revelation has left some fans upset and others confused, so here's what's going on. As far as I can tell, Zynga hasn't contacted any of the Zynga Lotto winners for the CityVille exclusive "sneak peak" grand prize (of which I am one), so if you didn't get an email from them about it, it's not because your spam filter ate it. I'm also here to confirm that there is no other game coming out -- CityVille is where it's at.
Now, exactly when CityVille will be launching is the top question on people's minds. Despite the big unveiling last week, no one can play the game yet. CityVille is set to be Zynga's first worldwide launch, and is going to be available in five languages -- English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. That's certainly going to take time to do. For now, we can only hope that when the game's halfway to ready, and no matter how buggy or rocky the start, all the Zynga Lotto winners can get first dibs.

FarmVille Sneak Peak: Candy Canes for the USCF Benioff Children's Hospital
FarmVille UCSF
Zynga's getting ready to rake in the dough this holiday season, but it's all for a good cause. Last week, we learned that FarmVille's new Candy Cane crop is actually part of a larger social media fund-raising effort to help pay for the construction of the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, to which Zynga has pledged 100% of its donations.
FarmVille UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital
Details of this new donation campaign can be seen (in the above image and) as a leaked Flash file on the FarmVille website here. Permits to grow the Candy Canes are tentatively priced at a whopping 240 Farm Cash, which is about $40 USD. After which, they'll cost 10 Coins each, sell for 125 Coins, harvest in 2 days, will never wither, and yield 3 XP.
Before anyone freaks out, remember that this is all just a work-in-progress, so the details can change at any time. Now that we have an idea what to expect, the final surprise is what the collectible gift will be. The last major FarmVille charity event -- the "School of Choice" in Haiti -- earned everyone a free "L' Ecole de Choix" Hot Air Balloon for their farms.

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Ornament Fountain, Pink Winter Tree, Icy Archway, & More
With many FarmVille players already transitioning their farms from a look of fall and Thanksgiving to one of winter and Christmas, it's only fitting that we would come across some new Winter/Holiday-themed unreleased item images. There are quite a few new decorations that may or may not be coming to FarmVille in the near future, and we're here to give you a look at them.
As you can see from the image above, some of these items are holiday-themed, while others just represent winter. From left to right, we believe the items are the Pink Winter Tree, Ornament Fountain, Ice Cube (Melting), White Holiday Teddy Bear, Winter Icy Archway, and Winter Ice Cube. Keep in mind that these items may have different names once they are finally released.
As far as we know, if and when the Pink Winter Tree does come out, it will be a decorative item, rather than a tree that can be harvested, but as usual, there is no guarantee that any of these items will actually see the light of day in the game, so keep that in mind.

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Mrs. Claus, Cream Teddy Bear, & Tan Teddy Bear avatar costumes
While farmers everywhere are busy taking advantage of the double mastery weekend currently taking place in FarmVille, we've been able to find a lot of new unreleased items and decorations that may or may not be launching in the game this holiday season.
This time around, we can bring you a sneak peek of three new costumes for your FarmVille avatar. The first is a Mrs. Claus costume, that will be for girl avatars. Will there be a Santa Claus outfit released as well? One would think so.
The other two outfits represent holiday toys, in the form of a Cream Teddy Bear and a Tan Teddy Bear costume. These costumes are mostly identical, save for the red bow that the Cream Teddy Bear wears around his neck, and of course, the color.
As usual, there is no guarantee that these items will actually make it into FarmVIlle, so keep that in mind.
